We officially dedicated Elijah to the Lord today. We did not have a big celebration or invite a lot of people, in fact if you didn’t know about it, I’m sorry. I was having a conversation with a really good friend the other day and I happened to mention we were dedicating Elijah this Sunday. She was shocked I had a so so attitude about it and made a few really good points. I told my friend we were not sentimental, not having a huge celebration and the reason why was because we’ve already dedicated our kids to the Lord (not publicly) and have been raising them that way. She pointed out all the other worldly celebrations the world makes important and when someone makes a decision for the Lord we should celebrate that even more since this should be more important for us as christians. Second, she pointed out that many people choose to live together and not officially marry, but make a committment to stay together. Which doesn’t make sense, since they ‘plan’ to stay together, why not make it official. So we’ve made a committment to raise our kids in the Lord but not publicly, why not make it official? Thirdly she thinks it’s important to make a public statement to my church family so that they can keep me accountable.
I like her points. Anybody have anything they want to add? Or disagree with? Have you dedicated your kids? What are the reasons for why or why not? Just curious….no judgements from me, I promise!
