Elijah is officially the Lord’s August 17, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jennifer Seltzer @ 9:25 pm

We officially dedicated Elijah to the Lord today.  We did not have a big celebration or invite a lot of people, in fact if you didn’t know about it, I’m sorry.  I was having a conversation with a really good friend the other day and I happened to mention we were dedicating Elijah this Sunday.  She was shocked I had a so so attitude about it and made a few really good points.   I told my friend we were not sentimental, not having a huge celebration and the reason why was because we’ve already dedicated our kids to the Lord (not publicly) and have been raising them that way.  She pointed out all the other worldly celebrations the world makes important and when someone makes a decision for the Lord we should celebrate that even more since this should be more important for us as christians.  Second, she pointed out that many people choose to live together and not officially marry, but make a committment to stay together.  Which doesn’t make sense, since they ‘plan’ to stay together, why not make it official.  So we’ve made a committment to raise our kids in the Lord but not publicly, why not make it official?  Thirdly she thinks it’s important to make a public statement to my church family so that they can keep me accountable.

I like her points.  Anybody have anything they want to add?  Or disagree with?  Have you dedicated your kids?  What are the reasons for why or why not?  Just curious….no judgements from me, I promise!

Aaron and I were lucky enough to be invited by our friend to watch the taping of his television debut.  Yes, it was only wheel of fortune but he looked great on t.v.!  It was a very long day and we sat through 4 tapings of the show.  Let’s just say you won’t see me clapping for a very long time!  Interested to know how he did?  Check out Wheel of Fortune October 16th….his name is Josh Banker.   There is a 33.333333% chance you will see yours truly on t.v as well….you’ll just have to watch and see…or email me, I break under pressure.

Taking a day off work to play with his kids…..

Taking the kids to the OC Fair even though he hates crowds…..

Thanks for setting the standard high daddy…we love you!

Cabo San Lucas August 3, 2008

I am no longer jealous of you vacationers!  I have been there and done that and now it’s time to make you all jealous.  I left the boys at home and went for an all girls trip to Cabo.  This is the third time I’ve been and it keeps getting better every time.  I think the reason I love it so much is because it reminds me of Lake Powell.  I grew up going there every summer and due to some unfortunate family circumstances, we no longer go.  Anyhow, Cabo has replaced my childhood nostalgic.  It’s a two hour flight but a world away.  It’s where the desert meets the ocean…

Camping in Oceanside July 31, 2008

The boys and I went camping last week in Oceanside with my grandparents.  They loved “camping” and all that goes along with it.  The weather was beautiful and the company was wonderful!  Isaac was a fish and Elijah was a crab….sand crab that is.

My Little Man in a Tux July 20, 2008

This was Isaac’s first wedding and he did great.  The groomsmen kept dishing out candy/mints to him, but I was so proud because he stood up with them through the whole ceremony!   The sugar rush hit him once we got to the reception and he lit up the dance floor….all by himself!

Oh he’s so cute!  My heart melted when I saw him totally dressed!  The tux was way too big….he was measured and everything….Friar tux isn’t the greatest BTW….

A Cold Day at the Beach July 16, 2008

We went and spent a very cold day at the beach last week.  The sun never came out and the boys asked to go home because they were cold!  What kid wants to leave the beach?  Well, my kids.  We’ve been to the beach twice this summer and we’ve yet to see the sun!  What gives?

Then we came home and the boys decided they wanted to take a shower….

Those of you who know my kids, knows that this is a rare moment of sweetness to each other!

Summer Memories July 6, 2008

My Favorite summer memories….

*The smell…yes summer has a certain smell…maybe it’s all the fruit and flower blossoms

*Playing all day long until the sun went down

*Preforming lipsyncs and plays (can’t imagine how good they were though…we must have been 9 or 10)

*Swimming in my neighbors doughboy pool and making a whirlpool

*Eating fabulous fresh fruit right from the tree, at the same neighbors house.

*Walking to the 7-11 to get candy and slurpee’s…with the same neighbors!

*Lemonade stands

*Running away (this only happened a few times and I went to the bus stop five houses down!)

*Going to the River…Echo Lodge

*Hume Lake summer camp and other ones too

*Spending all day at the beach and then bon fires at night….love that smell too!

I’m sure I’ve missed a few….what are your favorite summer memories?   Anyone up for a bon fire this summer??

Funny talk with Isaac… July 2, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jennifer Seltzer @ 9:06 pm

Isaac (tummy rumbles)

Mommy (laughing and poking his tummy)  “Hey, what was that?  Are you hungry?”

Isaac (giggling) “No silly mommy, that was Jesus.”

Mommy (heart melting) “Really?  Jesus is in your tummy?”

Isaac (just a little frustrated) ”No mommy, He’s in my heart”

Mommy (heart is pretty much melted at this point) “But that was your tummy talking to me.”

Isaac (pretty much frustrated at this point) “No that was Jesus in my heart talking!”

Oh how simple and sweet it is to be a child!

A birthday in the Seltzer household July 1, 2008

Sunday was Aaron’s 30 something birthday.  Since my hubby is not the partying type we didn’t do much.  We did get to eat out at our favorite restaurant, the old spaghetti factory.  It was there that we actually got a nice family photo.  I can’t tell you how long it’s been since we got a picture of all four of us looking at the camera.  It must be in kids nature to look away just as the camera snaps the picture.  It’s always one, if not both looking away, or making a funny face.  I wonder how in the world other families get their pictures?  I usually bribe mine with a jelly bean…don’t tell my sister!  In the words of Isaac, Happy Birthday, Birthday boy!
